The prize money for World Cyber Games 2009 has been announced to be a total of $280.000, with $80.500 for Counter-Strike 1.6.
It might still be hard times for the economics and if you look at the total prize purse for World Cyber Games 2009, then you discover a major cut, compared to the 2008 event. The 2008 event, which took place in Cologne, had a total prize purse of $470.000 and comparing it with the money bag put up for Chengdu, then you discover a cut of $190.000.
The cutback is actually so big, that the total prize purse for a WCG event has not been this low, since the first event in 2000, having $200.000 in total prize purse. Last year was still the event with the biggest purse, seeing $470.000 being handed out, while this year will be the lowest in 9 years.
For Counter-Strike 1.6, there will be $80.500 this year, whereas last year there was $102.500 up for grabs. For the winning team, there will be $15.000 less this year, meaning the winning team will score a $35.000 cheque. The detailed prize distribution for Counter-Strike 1.6 this year, will be as follows:
1. $35.000 + $2.000 in hardware
2. $18.000 + $1.500 in hardware
